Freestyle Friday: In Memory of Derrion Albert
THE FOLLOWING IS THE ENTIRE THREAD AS CAPTURED ON THE WALL OF CHRISTOPHER FANT ON OCTOBER 1 AND 2, 2009. If you are unfamiliar with Derrion Albert, he was a High School Junior that was killed by fellow students that was described as a Melee. His murder was caught on tape by an on-looker.
Poetry is suppose to move and inspire. So all the comments, thoughts, feelings, and poetic contributions were all heart-felt to me and worthy of saving for memorial sake, and are being reposted today, April 6, 2011.

Life has it's ups and downs… but when it's all said…life don't deserve to get beat to the ground…we look around and see the youth…killing each other up….where the truth…apparently it aint being taught….in school…better yet at home…cause that's where it all starts…some things wrong…with the big picture…instead of shaking hands for peace…they quick to hit ya….no knowledge being spread…while I'll babies lie bloody and dead!

Leave it up to me/
there'll be a mass exodus of any heart beatin'/
in the streets past 3.
Gas rate – Crime rate – sex rates all up/
trust the system lies/
in the face of parent's cries/
I look in my child eyes/
and pray he lives passed me/
because burying anyone of my kids/
are tears that I wish not even my mirror to see/
R-I-P to every kid lost in the struggle/
and R-I-P to every adult with a mouth with a muzzle/
and R-I-P to every parent that had to set their kid free/
and R-I-P to every trike painted white/
to represent a lost life/
R-I-P to every gun that my community glorified/
and kids thought it was cool/
to make the innocent a shook one/
R-I-P to all the dumb ones/

Sit back with a sad face..this world such a bad place/
Where u can go to school early but later on end up getting ya ass chased/
Thinking of all the others who have been killed over who's who/
But luckily their death wasnt aired over the news and YouTube/
We can say rest in peace but when u missing your peace how do u rest/
We can only hope for better and praise to lord for lives to be blessed/
So much stress and anger collided with danger is just a minor sore/
No one while in the act of thinks to realize what are we fighting for/
And r young r killing young it's looking dumb but it's been begun/
Shorty getting bullied and teased at school goes home and later found hung/
To much pressure for a youngster how do they cope/
Who teaches them to be strong mentally when surrounded by gangs and dope/
Do u believe in hope. Well u know they laughing at our kids/
Now we got some teenagers on trial ready to serve life bids/
Who made them think it was right to hurt and take life/
Why wasn't they parents making em come str8 home to read and write/
As a youngin I was victim to victor kept my head up and wouldn't quit/
So as a man I'm saying live and let live. I'm tired of this bullshiii/

COMMON- REMINDS ME…. THAT SONG TAKES ME BACK 2 OLD SCHOOL CHI, WHEN ALL PEOPLE DID WAS KICK IT!! THERE WAS VIOLENCE, BUT NO ONE FEARED FOR THEIR LIVES GOING 2 SCHOOL OR WORK. IT JUST WASN'T THAT BAD!
AND LET'S NOT FORGET MY FAVORITE… RETROSPECT FOR LIFE- COMMON! IT'S MAINLY ABOUT UNWANTED PREGNANCY AND ABORTION, BUT NONE THE LESS, IT'S ABOUT APPRECIATING LIFE! WE DON'T DO THAT ENOUGH THESE DAYS. DERRION, MAY YOUR SOULD FIND PEACE IN THE LORD!!! R.I.P.
