The Sing Mile

OK..so the phenomenon that is American Idol is one of the most important and relevant shows in Society today..LMAO…even I couldn’t even keep a straight face as I typed that!

I think we can all agree that Idol is an extremely popular show…it allows the untalented to see what real talent looks like, breathes, and walks like…It helps the ‘self-proclaimed’ talented at home to see what the pressure of the big stage is like…it sickens the truly talented that there is an age cut-off….because the show represents true opportunity lost…Ok..all this is known…as I’m sure you the reader falls into one of the fore mentioned categories…now…time to get to the Post purpose…

I have a colleague that likes Idol and like most of america, get pumped up for the show, especially for the results show(s)..anyway…during lunch the other day..I believe it was the day after one of the results shows…the conversation arose about the structure of the results shows…

I had said that out of the ‘few’ edisodes that I had seen, I had to memory only remember seeing only one person start crying when they walk the ‘Sing Mile.’

Terminology Note: The ‘Sing Mile’ is a The American Idol version of ‘The Green Mile’. If you are unfamiliar, the Green Mile is a movie starring Tom Hanks and Mike Clark Duncan. The term ‘Green Mile’ in the movie represented walking the ‘Last Mile’ to yuor execution which in the movie was represented by a Green Floor covering to the Electric Chair. So ‘The Sing Mile’ is the ‘Final Singing’ of an American Idol Contestant voted off!….OK…Got it…Good! Let’s keep the post going! 
Now again, maybe more avid Idol viewers may have seen someone cry more frequently than the 1 instance that I recall seeing, but it was entertainment…the Reality age that we are in feeds on viewers need to see emotion..overboard emotion even…and witness the pain of someone…so…after we joked about it (LOL….proving my own point)…my coworker LMc brought up how sucky that has got to be….you are the chosen one to be voted off the American Idol Island…you are not considered good enough to compete anymore…you suck…America has grown tired of your face…your voice needs a Lemon drop, you have been exposed as the loser that you really are!

So, with the love that the world has shown you, your reward…..TO SING ONE LAST SNIPPET OF THE VERY SONG THAT GOT YOUR ASS VOTED OFF THE SHOW!…LMAO…Is it just me and LMc that thinks there MIGHT be something wrong with this? In hindsite its pretty funny.

Has it ever happened that all of America has a Change of Heart after hearing your "Final Singing"..and voted you back on?!…If you are voted off, why not just say OK, I’m f’in outta here America….I can already hear half of america at home during the Sing Mile

"See…that’s why I didn’t vote for ‘em right there..you hear that."
"Damn that sounds terrible"
"I liked him/her."
"America is stupid."
"I wonder if he/she is going to have some type of career and eat there money away like Ruben Studdard?"

So….in keeping with the ‘Sing Mile Theme’…the question arose…"How would this go over in the ‘Real’ World.

For instance: If you get fired from your job at McDonald’s…what if were customary for you to perform your job one las time in front of your ‘old’ colleagues…if you flipped burgers…you’d flip one more row of burgers so your losing technique could be witnessed, pondered over, mulled over, questioned, and thought to require a process improvement..once more before you turn in your ‘McD’ hat and ‘McD’ shirt!!…funny isn’t it…

or how about this..

You are a failed Accountant that gets the boot…should your last minute at the workplacae be used to crunch the numbers of one final worksheet..while other look on in amazement!..Tweet about your technique…Facebook the look of your face via picture message, or update their status, "I wish you all could be here to help humiliate this guy/girl"

I can hear that one always a naysayer in the background..I knew he/she would never make it!"..or "Look at how he/she holds there pencil…and why aren’t they using a Pen…always scared of making a mistake!"…

What about a Doctor…should he use the scalpel one more time on an unsuspecting, unconscious patient waiting to have their brain operated on?!

Should a Developer be allowed to make an application change just one more time!?

What about Volunteers?…if a volunteer sucks at volunteering, should their ‘Sing Mile’ include suckingly volunteering one more time!

One of my favs is a fired Customer Service Rep….I THINK it should be completely OK for a fired Customer Service rep to be able to get on the phone one final time and provide the same piss poor service to yet another undeserving individual. That would be a great sendoff..

..now picture all of the above ‘Sing Mile’ scenarios that the person is crying!…LMAO..

Oh what a Wonderful World. Exit like the Idol you are!
